Hunt for tui killer cat

Some of you might have seen the article in Cook Strait news from February 2th. Since the beginning of January 19 tui has been found dead, due to been preyed on by cat. Kill signs are attributed with cat feeding behavior. Leaving wings, legs and feet and head. Some of the most fresh remains have been sent of to Massey University to be DNA tested for cat saliva. Cat foot prints have also been seen in the fine mud where birds come for a drink and bath. A wet bird is a very easy prey. Photos and video from motion detection cameras around this stream area shows a single white cat hanging around teh streambed every second day at different hours. Around 2 am, 5 am, 11,30 am, 2 pm, 16,30 pm, 7 pm and 11 pm. So far the cat has eluded the traps in the area. Will keep you posted…
